Learn this Practice to Attend Weekly Level II Meditation Sessions on Thursdays:
Sh'ma and Body of Light in Six Directions Video Course
(Integral Kabbalah Meditation Level II)
Picture
The Sh'ma is often taught as the monotheistic creed of Judaism. But the classic Hassidic text, the Tanya, states clearly that Judaism is not a monotheistic religion. Monotheism is the belief in one deity. The Sh'ma, explains the Tanya, does not affirm belief in one deity. Rather, it affirms the basic unity of all Reality, and what we call "God" is nothing less than that basic unity. In other words, God does not "exist," but rather God is Existence.

The Sh'ma, then, is not a creed or belief at all. It is a reminder to notice the basic unity of Reality; it is a pointer to your actual experience, right now.

This four week video course expands on the basic Integral Jewish Meditation practice and goes deep into each of the six words of the Sh'ma, exploring them through contemplation, chanting and meditation. We will also learn a deep visualization and breathing practice to accompany the chanting of the six words, that you can use in your own daily practice.

There is a Talmudic principle that says, "tadir v'she'eino tadir, tadir kodem." This
means that more frequent practices take precedence over less frequent practices. For example, Shabbat takes precedence over Hanukkah, because Shabbat comes every week.

Based on this principle, chanting the Sh'ma is perhaps the most important Jewish meditative practice there is, since it is traditionally chanted five or six times per day. And, although many people think of the Sh'ma as a prayer, it isn't. Rather, it is a complete practice of affirmation, contemplation, visualization, chanting and meditation.

Course includes:

  • Four video lessons, about sixty minutes each. Each lesson takes you step by step in building the practice, including chanting, guided meditation and esoteric analysis of the Hebrew words.
  • Daily Practice PDF with Hebrew, English transliteration, translation and written instructions.
