I love to swim. I'll even get in the water when it's pretty cold, because I know I'll warm up once I swim around a bit. But I admit– when I first feel the freezing water on my feet, it's hard to get myself to jump in.
But there are other times– maybe you've experienced this- when the water is PERFECT. The moment you step in, there's suddenly nothing more enticing then the thought of immersing your whole body in that lusciousness. You relax yourself into that water, and the world drops away– no more worries or problems, just floating in the blissful expanse...
And yet, as wonderful as it is to immerse your body in those perfect waters, it pales in comparison to that wellspring of renewal available within your own being.
If you have begun to learn the secret of Presence through Integral Kabbalah Meditation, then you've had a taste of what I'm talking about. You've "dipped in your toes," so to speak. But are you ready to dive in all the way and make Presence a way of being? If so, this experiential course through the Ten Sefirot and the Twenty-Two Hebrew Letters could be right for you.
Why?
With Integral Kabbalah Meditation, you've learned to access the depths of Presence simply and directly. IKM gives you the "keys to the Palace," so to speak, so you can easily enter the "Palace of Presence" whenever you wish. After all, beneath our thoughts and feelings, Presence is what we really are!
But you also may find yourself "kicked out" of that "Palace of Presence" again and again. That's because everything we do, every word we say, and every thought we think (not to mention everything happening in our environment that we have no control over) shapes our experience. So when we get up from meditation and move back into our lives, our ingrained patterns take over.
If we really want to bring that inner Light of Presence into every moment, we need to not only immerse frequently in the "waters," we need to work on the structure of the "well" as well! Meaning, we need to shape our inner world so that it becomes a channel for that Light that is always available.
Each letter is actually a "Presence portal" with a unique quality that you can learn to cultivate and embody.
For example, the letter Alef is about realizing the unity between joy and sorrow. It is remembering that all emotions are different modulations of your consciousness, and you can learn to love all feelings as different forms of the essentially the same thing.
Bet, which means "house," is the attitude of hospitality, actively welcoming whatever arises in your experience. But it's also the act of "cleaning house"– of being conscious enough to choose what thoughts and feelings you wish to cultivate.
Gimel means "camel," and just as the camel stores its nourishment in its hump as it traverses the desert, Gimel reminds us of our power to stay connected inwardly to our innate Wholeness, even as we traverse the "desert" of challenging situations.
Dalet means "door," and so represents moving through "doorways" of different perspectives – the ability to see things from multiple points of view. This creates the possibility for peace and connection where there is often conflict.
These examples just scratch the surface of the first four of the twenty-two letters.
Thirty Two Paths of Presence will teach you a practice for internalizing and embodying the twenty-two Hebrew letters, along with the Ten Emanations, or Sefirot (spiritual qualities such as Love and Equanimity). You will learn to chant special verses that will connect you with the energy of each letter and sefirah, and visualizations to bring them into your own body. Through this Level III, Integral Kabbalah Meditation Practice, you will develop a practical and effective means for building the "Inner Temple" and becoming a stable a vessel for the Divine Light.
The letters and sefirot are also spiritual archetypes for different ways of embodying the Light. There's a story that Rabbi Baer asked his teacher, The "Seer" of Lublin, to teach him the most important way to connect with the Divine.
The master replied, "It's impossible for one path to be the most important. For one person, the most important way is through learning, for another it's through prayer, for another it's through fasting, yet for another it's through eating. Everyone must carefully observe themselves to see where their heart is drawn, and then consciously choose this way with all their strength."
In addition to being a powerfully transformative practice group, this is also an opportunity to learn about yourself and your own unique path by reflecting on the archetypes of the Hebrew letters and sefirot. Through this deep clarification process, your whole life comes more and more into alignment with your spiritual path.
