Torah of Awakening Bay Area Shabbat Event Coordinator Job Description
Part-time position, Independent Contractor $350 per Friday night Shabbat event 10-15 hours, including pre-event planning and the actual event Approximately 5 events per year between July 2022-June 2023 Additional projects: $25 per hour
About Torah of Awakening Bay Area Torah of Awakening is an international online Jewish meditation learning and practice community. The teachings and practices are rooted in Judaism but are universal and open to people of all backgrounds. The Bay Area Torah of Awakening community comes together in-person for Friday night Shabbat celebrations (Shabliss!) at various venues in the East Bay, between 4 and 7 times per year. Shabbat in the House is a more intimate Shabbat gathering hosted in community members’ homes. The Bay Area community also gathers to celebrate the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
The Event Coordinator will be responsible for planning and execution of the Shabliss! Events. Exact dates to be determined in coordination with the Event Coordinator.
Serve as TOA contact/liaison with the venue to arrange set up and all logistics
Assist in scheduling venues and working out contracts
Maintain strong communication with the TOA leadership team
Hire assistants for events as needed using the budget allocated
Manage and organize storage and transport supplies to and from events
Keep inventory of supplies and order supplies as needed for the event
Coordinate setup including registration, ritual items, decoration, accessibility and signage
Coordinate potluck with the help of volunteers
Coordinate shopping for items needed for the event including food, batteries, wine, challah
Coordinate clean up and pack up of supplies
Coordinate volunteers to assist with set up and clean up and other tasks during the service
Cultivate relationships with community members and donors
Cultivate community through building a strong volunteer base
Availability to assist with additional tasks related to events (approximately 5 hours per month)
Detail-oriented and skilled in logistics and planning
Leadership and delegation skills are a must!
Event planning skills
Tech-savvy, able to work with Google docs and learn/use other programs as needed.
Ability to work collaboratively with TOA Leadership team and with volunteers
Excellent communication skills
Timeliness in correspondence
Enthusiasm for the event and the ability to cultivate enthusiasm in the community
